About
The residents of Mariendahl Farm are beneficiaries of the project. Many of the residents of the farm are currently employed at Stellenbosch University as security, kitchen staff and cleaners, amongst other jobs. Other residents work as labourers on Mariendahl farm. These are low-income houses catered for Stellenbosch University’s employees and their families. Families living in these houses consist of 2 - 5 people. The houses are owned by Stellenbosch University and are donated to eligible staff in need during their employment at the university. All financial savings generated by the implementation of the individual SWH systems will be realised by the residents since they are responsible for all electricity costs of the households (including electrical geyser). In one year, this installation gives a solar yield of 11.50 MWh and is responsible for the avoidance of 3975.80 kilograms of CO2 emissions.
